A Vignette Encounter With One Such Event
An ordinary start to an ordinary day. Yawns and sighs as the breakfast seekers drop into their usual places.
“Good morning all.”
“Looks like it’s going to rain all day.”
“The news says the surf is really pounding the sea wall down by the inlet.”
And that does it! Something triggers in my mind and I am gone, lost in memories – great memories!
The wind tears at my hair and the fine rain falls on my face. I watch with awe as the pounding waves break on the sea wall. Then the waves retreat, depositing as they go a little bit of everything. Out to sea so far I think it will never return, but before I can think there it is again, carrying still another load.
“So like life. I never know what is going to happen, or if I’ll learn anything or lose my way. A bit scary but challenging and so exciting — Oh listen, that’s Mother calling me.”
“Marjorie, what are you thinking of? Come in out of the rain!”
Then she laughs, startling me. I look around, confused, and realize I’m still at the breakfast table, and it’s Annette who is laughing.
“Marj – where were you? You certainly weren’t with us.”
“Back in the days of my youth – remembering how challenging but exciting life can be.”
“That’s hardly new, is it? That reminds me. Tomorrow I’ll bring my new robot down to show you. I’ve taught him new tricks. There’s always something new to learn.”
